Ideogram 4.0
Ideogram's current flagship, a 9.3B-parameter diffusion transformer released 3 June 2026 with both API access and downloadable weights.
- Resolution
- 2048 px on the long side (native resolutions 256-2048 in multiples of 16)
- Aspect ratios
- up to 6:1 (and the inverse); arbitrary sizes in multiples of 16 within 256-2048 px
- Weights
- Downloadable
- API
- Yes
- Commercial use
- The licence forbids commercial use
Its distinguishing feature is layout-first generation: elements are positioned by bounding box in 0-1000 normalized coordinates inside a structured JSON prompt, alongside hex colour-palette conditioning. Native resolutions run from 256 to 2048 px in multiples of 16, with aspect ratios up to 6:1.
The published weights are under an 'Ideogram 4 Non-Commercial' licence, so commercial use of the downloaded weights is not permitted by default.

Strengths
- Best-in-class in-image text rendering (0.97 on X-Omni English OCR per third-party reporting)
- Explicit bounding-box layout control instead of prose-only prompting
- Open weights small enough to run on a single 24GB GPU (nf4 build)
Weaknesses
- Weights license is non-commercial despite launch messaging about commercial availability
- 2048 px ceiling is below 4K rivals
- Layout-JSON prompting is a learning curve
Best for
- Poster, packaging and ad layouts where text and element placement must be exact.
Where the sources disagree
Recorded rather than resolved. Picking the tidier number would hide the fact that the vendor's own pages do not agree.
- MATERIAL CONFLICT: third-party coverage of the Ideogram 4.0 launch states it was 'released with open weights under a commercial license' allowing enterprise fine-tuning and self-deployment, while the Hugging Face model card names the license 'Ideogram 4 Non-Commercial'. We could not fetch ideogram.ai/news/ideogram-4.0 (HTTP 403). commercialUseAllowed is set false on the strength of the model card; a paid/enterprise commercial license likely exists separately.
- Images generated via Ideogram's paid API/subscription are a separate question from the weights license and were not verified.

Shotcraft hosts no sample output. Judging a model means watching its own showreel with your own eyes, and a clip re-hosted here would be a clip we chose.
