FLUX.2 [klein] (4B / 9B)
Size-distilled open-weights members of the FLUX.2 family, released January 2026 in 4B and 9B sizes plus 'Base' checkpoints intended for fine-tuning and LoRA training.

They keep text-to-image and single/multi-reference editing from the larger models at much lower cost and latency. Licensing differs by size: the 4B line is Apache 2.0, the 9B line is not.
The licence splits by size. FLUX.2 [klein] 4B and 4B Base are Apache 2.0 with no revenue threshold. The 9B variants are under the FLUX Non-Commercial License, where commercial use requires a paid BFL licence.
- Depends on your plan tier. The 9B, 9B KV and 9B Base variants require a paid BFL licence for commercial use.

Maximum resolution and supported aspect ratios are not established here. That means no page we could retrieve stated them, not that the model lacks them.
Strengths
- Apache 2.0 at the 4B size is unusually permissive for a frontier-family model
- Cheapest FLUX hosted endpoints
- Base checkpoints published specifically for fine-tuning and LoRA
Weaknesses
- The 9B variants are non-commercial, which is easy to mix up with the Apache 4B
- Distilled quality below [pro]/[max]
- No published resolution ceiling
Best for
- Cost-sensitive high-volume generation, on-device or self-hosted work, and commercial fine-tuning on the Apache 2.0 4B base.
Where the sources disagree
Recorded rather than resolved. Picking the tidier number would hide the fact that the vendor's own pages do not agree.
- The FLUX.2 launch post (Nov 2025) previewed [klein] as 'Apache 2.0' without qualification; the shipped repo shows Apache 2.0 only for the 4B line and FLUX Non-Commercial for 9B. commercialUseAllowed=true refers to the 4B line only.
- Release date recorded as January 2026 from the Wikipedia variant table; the official BFL klein blog post URL we tried returned 404.

Shotcraft hosts no sample output. Judging a model means watching its own showreel with your own eyes, and a clip re-hosted here would be a clip we chose.
